A magnificent enameled pendant from the Victorian (ca1880s) era! Crafted in vibrant 14kt yellow gold, this vibrant piece represents the 3-dimensional repousse face of a fierce, snarling lion.?Luscious hand-painted enameling covers the surface, creating an exceptionally detailed appearance. Rich black curled lines?and stripes?give the illusion of a wild mane, and bright?red accents are painted across its?sharp teeth?and nostrils. Clenched within the lion's open mouth is a sparkling old Mine Cut diamond, which is prong set between pointed gold fangs. Two additional accent diamonds represent each of the lion's?twinkling eyes, and together with the third diamond, the collective weight of the piece is approximately 0.25ctw combined. The sparkling stones catch the light brilliantly with every turn, and come alive against the matte enameled background. The back is smoothly polished and a hidden bail rests at the top, above a "PAT APP'D FCH" maker's mark. This unique pendant would look gorgeous hanging from a favorite chain,?and would make quite an impressive addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements:?The pendant hangs approximately?3/4" long, measures about 7/8" wide, and is a little more than 1/8" thick.?
Condition:?The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or 3-dimensional repousse detail. All three diamonds are intact and securely set. The bail is secure and in good working condition. Given the age of the piece, the enamel is in excellent condition with?almost no signs of wear.?
